Fastest Production Car – Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

After much controversy, the people over at Guinness World Records declared that the Bugatti Veyron SS is still the world’s fastest production. The controversy started when John Hennessey sent Top Gear a video of his, Lotus Exige based, 1200bhp supercar topping 265.7mph. Despite the Bugatti Veyron SS hitting a ridiculous 268mph, Mr Hennessey claimed that although the Veyron’s are capable of hitting that speed, the production cars come with speed limiters meaning they are only able to hit a measly 258mph.

Guinness World Records released the following statement;

“Having evaluated all the necessary information, Guinness World Records is pleased to announce the confirmation of Bugatti’s record of Fastest Production Car, achieved by the Veyron 16.4 Supersport.”

Tallest Building in the World – Burj Khalifa, Dubai

The Burj Khalifa is not only the tallest building in the world; it also holds 6 other world records.

• Tallest free-standing structure in the world.
• Highest number of stories in the world.
• Highest occupied floor in the world.
• Highest outdoor observation deck in the world.
• Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world.
• Tallest service elevator in the world.

From the first stages of its excavation, the Burj Khalifa took 6 years to build. The project involved more than 380 skilled engineers and on-site technicians. The amount of rebar used for the tower is 31,400 metric tons – laid end to end this would extend a quarter of the way around the world.

The HP Officejet Pro X series printed 500 sheets in 7:18 minutes beating its closest competitor by a huge 2:30 minutes. Country with the Highest Average Internet Speed – Hong Kong

According to a Bloomberg report, Hong Kong currently holds the record for the highest average internet speed. Average peak speed was recorded at 54.1 megabits per second. A speed which could see you download a full HD movie in around four minutes. No prizes for guessing who came in at 2nd and 3rd on the list (South Korea & Japan).

World’s Richest Engineer – Nasser Al-Kharafi & Family

62 year old Nasser Al-Kharafi is currently the world’s richest engineer, sitting on a fortune of $12.4bn. His fortune has been inherited through the generations but he is still heavily involved in his construction business. As well as being the richest engineer, he is also the 29th richest man in the world.

World’s Largest Passenger Ship – Allure of the Seas (Royal Caribbean)

Costing a massive $1.2bn, the Allure of the Seas is currently the biggest passenger ship in the world. Despite its sister ship, Oasis of the Seas and itself having identical superstructures, the Allure of the Seas is 2 inches longer.
Allure of the Seas is owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. The ship features a two-deck dance hall, a theatre with 1,380 seats and an ice skating rink. The gross tonnage of the ship tops 225,000 with the actual weight of the ship estimated to be around 100,000 metric tons. Slightly less than that of an American Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.

World’s Widest Bridge – Oakland Bay Bridge, San Francisco

Costing an estimated $6.4bn, the Oakland Bay Bridge is currently the widest bridge in the world at a width of 10 general purpose lanes. The bridge also set the record for being longest, self-anchored suspension span bridge at a length of 2,047ft.

World’s Longest Bridge – Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge, China

At a mind blowing 102.4 miles long, the Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge is world’s longest bridge as of June, 2011. The bridge cost $8.5bn to build with construction starting in 2006. The bridge features a 9 kilo-metre long section over open water across Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou.

World’s Largest Warehouse – Boeing Everett Factory, Washington USA

The Boeing Everett Factory in Everett, Washington is the largest building in the world by volume at 399,480 m2. The facility is home to the 747, 767, 777 and the 787 Dreamliner production lines.

• 15,000 of the 38,000 Boeing employees.
• The buildings main corridor along the length of the structure is more than half a mile long.
• Around 55 football (soccer) pitches could be placed inside the building with plenty of space left to spare.
• The Perimeter of the building is around 2.2 miles long.

World’s Busiest Airport – Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta USA

The Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport has almost 100,000,000 passengers travelling through it every year. This airport is the definition of a world class airport. It has held the number one spot as the world’s busiest airport for over a decade now. The airport is considered a model for many airports around the world including some of the largest ones such as Heathrow and Beijing Capital International Airport.
