High-quality solutions to the challenges facing manufacturing companies

The industrial sector is in constant pursuit of perfection. Higher performance here, greater efficiency there, and more cost-savings everywhere. Process automation, and closed loop control systems in particular, offer an effective means of streamlining production processes to achieve maximum productivity at all times. All of which is made possible thanks to high-tech process sensors like Baumer’s portfolio of specialised solutions for manufacturers.

What is a closed loop control system?

Closed loop control systems are a collection of mechanical or electronic devices that automatically regulate a process variable to a desired set point without the need for human intervention. Widely used in industrial applications, such as in nuclear and water treatment plants, closed loop control systems are the zenith of process automation. Let’s take a closer look at what this looks like in practice.

Essentially, there are five basic components of a closed loop control system: the input, the process being controlled, the output, process sensors, and controller or actuating devices. The input represents the set point for the desired value of the output in the manufacturing process. Process sensors measure the variability between the input and output, signalling to the control and actuation equipment when to take action.

Sensor solutions for manufacturers

A closed loop control system is really only as good as the devices that make up the sum of its parts. Reliability is absolutely paramount. Sensor expert Baumer has effectively closed the loop on process automation with its broad portfolio of transmitters, sensors and measuring equipment. They’ve made themselves a one-stop-shop for industrial process sensors to measure pressure, temperature, level, flow and conductivity.

The following are just three control loop areas where they excel:

Flow

Baumer offers several industrial process sensors for the efficient monitoring of flow velocity and media temperature. Designed for aqueous media in closed systems, their FlexFlow range of flow sensors offers numerous process connections and probe lengths, as well as an optional IO-Link interface.

Pressure

Baumer’s extensive selection of pressure sensors, transmitters and switches are as durable as they are precise. Boasting an array of process connections and adapters, Baumer’s portfolio or pressure sensors are ideal for measuring everything from relative and absolute pressure to vacuum measurements.

Temperature

Baumer’s collection of precision temperature sensors feature a wide range of measuring technologies – including RTD thermometers and low invasive temperature transmitters – and Pt100 classes. Their sensors offer a great deal of flexibility, with multiple output signal options and numerous connectors and adapters.

When it comes to precise, efficient and cost-effective industrial process sensors, Baumer certainly has plenty of solutions for manufacturers up their sleeve.
