WIMES compliant Resilient hinge check valves designed for TOTEX
MGA Controls exhibited at the Pump Centre conference at Telford in May 2014. The PIF team had the opportunity to interview MGA’s Technical Manager, Jason Dean about the innovative Resilient hinge and Recoil Resilient hinge check valves (known as the SwingFlex and the Surgebuster) that they were exhibiting.
WIMES compliant Swing Check Valves
MGA Controls are the EXCLUSIVE distributor for the Val-Matic range of valves for water & wastewater applications. MGA have worked closely with Val-Matic to adapt their world leading check, plug & foot valves to ensure the valves are not only accepted, but add significant value to the UK water sector. These swing check valves are WIMES compliant, approved for use in the UK water companies and contribute to the new AMP period focus on TOTEX.
Application benefits of the Resilient Hinge Check Valves
When quizzed about the innovative features of MGA Controls’ Swing Check valves, Jason Dean states their uniqueness begins with the valves remaining clog free when installed vertically in applications. Furthermore, the valves consume 50% less energy when compared to competitor valves and the Val-Matic Swing Check valves only have 1 internal moving part, which has a 25 year warranty, giving complete peace of mind to engineers onsite.

Swing check valves for pumping applications
Ultimately, the SwingFlex and the Surgebuster swing check valves are highly efficient valves and are virtually maintenance free.

How do the valves fit with the theme of the how - Fit For Purpose Pumping?
According to the Technical Manager, these valves are ‘Fit and Forgot’, let alone ‘Fit for Purpose’.
In a pumping station, engineers need valves that they can install quickly and easily and then close the doors and let the application run. The SwingFlex and the Surgebuster allow this to happen. These swing check valves do not prevent blockages within the valves, they also prevent blockages within the pumps themselves. These valves require hardly any maintenance and rarely ever need to be replaced.
How do the Swing Check Valves support TOTEX?
As explained above the SwingFlex and Surgebuster reduce energy, maintenance & installation costs significantly, this reducing total expenditure for UK water companies.
MGA Controls can, upon request, provide case studies to demonstrate how the valves compare on a maintenance basis and on an energy consumption basis to competitor valves. Click here for more information about MGA Controls.
