TOPS Packaged Pumping System: A self-cleaning sump for wastewater applications

Xylem Water Solutions Ltd has over 100 years’ experience in the water and wastewater sector, having developed the first electric submersible pump (Flygt Pump) and now more sophisticated pumping systems for complex water & wastewater applications.

The PIF team had the opportunity to interview Water Sector expert Andrew Barry whilst Xylem were exhibiting at the Pump Centre Conference about the innovative products on display.

One of the products on display was the TOPS Packaged Pumping Station which is a patented self-cleaning benching unit which reduces solids build up in the sump resulting in reduced pump failures, and costly maintenance call outs.

The TOPS Packaged Pumping Station is a patented self-cleaning benching unit which is hydraulically optimised to increase turbulence during pumping, reducing solids build up in the sump resulting in reduced pump failures, and costly maintenance call outs.

At the heart of the TOPS Packaged Pumping Station is the Flygt pump itself. Flygt are the originators of the submersible pump, and as the largest manufacturer in the world, offers a wide choice of pumps to suit the most arduous applications. The patented TOPS benching unit improves the flow over the sump floor during pumping. This increase in turbulence causes re-suspension of solids and entrainment of floating debris. The result is more solids being removed from the sump, leaving a minimum sludge accumulation in the sump which cuts the cost of service calls.

The Flygt TOPS Packaged Pumping Stations are available as fully adoptable stations under the latest SFA guidelines, and has been approved by many of the Water Companies in the UK. Delivered as a prefabricated kit, the TOPS Packaged Pumping Station is easy to install and time saving.
