Innovative Connector Series for Tight Spaces

A new series of industrial high-speed connectors is set to revolutionise space-constrained industrial applications. The innovative development of robust ix Industrial™ connectors will support high-speed signal transmission up to 10G and will reduce installation space by up to 75%.

PIF spoke to HIROSE Electric Co. Ltd; a leading world-class Japanese manufacturer of high-quality connectors, to get more information on this new innovation.

Robust, Compact and High-speed I/O Connectors for Small Spaces

HIROSE has developed the robust ix Industrial™ series of connectors specifically for space-constrained industrial applications, in order to support high-speed signal transmission and reduce installation space – estimated to be up to 75% compared to RJ45 solutions.

The manufacturer generates sales of 115 billion Yen (866 million euros) worldwide and has recently expanded with a new development in Milan, Italy. The expansion allows for stronger relationship building and a greater integration into the European market.

The ix Industrial™ series I/O connector development supports CAT5e (1Gbps) and CAT6A (10Gbps) cabling. It also features an optimised EMI/ESD shielding design for safe and secure data transmission up to 10Gbps.

Reliable and Efficient Installation with a snap-in Connector

Featuring a rugged and reliable design, the snap-in I/O plug connector has a positive metal lock that provides a clear tactile click and ensures complete, secure mating. Compliant with IEC/ PAS 61076-3-124, the ix Industrial™ I/O connector is available with two keying codes for Ethernet and non-Ethernet applications, allowing for a smooth installation.

The receptacle can be mounted in parallel with a pitch distance of only 10mm. The narrow width of the receptacle is particularly beneficial when multiple connectors are positioned on a single PCB side-by-side. Particularly good for space-constrained applications.

The receptacle shell is mounted on the PCB via through-hole solder legs to enhance PCB retention and to resist the wrenching of the cable assembly, protecting the SMT leads. The wire-termination unit and cable clamp are integrated into a single plug shell, which prevents the connecting part of the cable assembly from being affected by the load on the cable.
