Emparro67 provides decentralised IP67 power supply
Among the many challenges facing drive applications are distance from the power supply, through to high start-up currents due to powering large loads. Thankfully, Murrelektronik’s decentralised power supply, Emparro67 – featuring a power boost and current limiter for DC drives – mitigates against these exact types of problems.
IP67 Power Supply
Murrelektronik recently designed a power supply system for a customer’s DC drive in a machine feeding system. This large system had just one main control cabinet and no terminal boxes, prompting the customer to pursue a decentralised IP67 installation concept. A previous attempt at using a decentralised IP67 power supply ended in disappointment, due to the high start-up current of the DC drive.
This time around, nothing short of Murrelektronik’s famous reliability would do. So the customer opted for Emparro67. Due to the fact that the Murrelektronik Emparro67 has a protection degree of IP67, he could place it right next to the drive. The connectors are located on the same side, so he was able to tuck the power supply directly under the machine. This decentralised power supply concept makes installation easier and prevents power loss by eliminating long cables.
Decentralised Power Supply
Another critical factor for this application with DC drives was having a power supply that was powerful enough, especially during the start-up sequences. Emparro67 meets this requirement and also features both a power boost and current limiter. The power boost provides 150% output power for more than five seconds, delivering the extra power needed to get the drives started when they require power most due to start-up torque. After the power boost, 9A of constant current is delivered.
Decentralised power supply has many advantages, including:
- Reduces the size of the control cabinet.
- Decreases cable loss because the power supply is directly next to the load.
- Cuts down on wiring.
- Rugged device that withstands shocks and vibrations.
Murrelektronik Emparro67
The Murrelektronik Emparro67 fits perfectly into the connection expert’s wide-ranging product portfolio and vision for the future. “Along with our remote IO concept, Emparro67 gives us the possibility to reduce the size of the cabinet and move the power supply out into the field where it should be,” says Manuel Senk, product manager for Emparro67. “Our vision is to help our customers achieve a zero cabinet strategy and this product is among the first that will help our customer’s reach that goal,” he adds.
