Baumer explains the benefits of dual channels with digital and analogue interfaces

A combination of analogue and digital interfaces enable manufacturers to deliver better results with dual channels. This opens the door to several possibilities and ways to interpret data and drive business development and essential preventative maintenance.

PIF spoke to sensor and measurement device experts, Baumer, to find out how their PP20H pressure sensor and Combilyz AFI conductivity sensor. They also explain how digital communication opens the door to numerous new possibilities, but only sensors that reliably deliver precise measured values offer real added value with IO-Link (Input-Output Link).

How Baumer’s PP20H pressure sensor and CombiLyz AFI conductivity sensor work well together

Baume’s PP20H pressure sensor and CombiLyz AFI conductivity sensor excel by offering outstanding measuring performance with IO-Link interface. This combination of pressure and conductivity sensors enables simple and fast parameterisation - even during operation.

By using this system, secondary data can be communicated from sensor to controller, or even retrieved from the sensor memory when required. Further to the digital interface, these sensors also provide one or more conventional analogue outputs for maximum user flexibility.

Dual Channel - analogue and digital interface in a single sensor

Dual-Channel operation enables analogue, and digital sensor operation at the same time. Baumer’s process sensors, such as their conductivity sensor CombiLyz AFI and pressure sensor PP20H, work in conjunction to control conventional topologies, and in digital IO-Link control environments.

In process automation, the analogue interface is helpful for sensor integration into existing control concepts. Therefore; in sensors commissioning IO-Link advantages; including, easy and fast parameterisation or access to secondary data, is an invaluable help.

More information, more process effectiveness

IO-Link provides access to valuable data that can allow for operational conclusions to be drawn by the engineering or production team, to assist business changes and predictive maintenance. The CombiLyz AFI conductivity sensor delivers information on media concentration or conductivity to precisely identify the medium and concentration for absolute and relative pressure measurement.

Enhanced process efficiency thanks to fusion sensor data

Baumer explains that IO-Link allows for mutual and bidirectional sensor communication via the controller. As a result of this; every sensor can utilise the measured valves of other sensors to solve complex measuring tasks, to optimise processes and production flow.

With CombiLyz conductivity sensors, PP20H pressure sensors now featuring this digital communication interface; Baumer further adds on their portfolio of IO-Link process sensors. The Baumer portfolio also includes solutions for flow and level indication including this digital communication as standard.
