Baumer sensor solutions for the packaging industry
Baumer’s innovative process sensors enable reliable manufacturing and cleaning processes in the packaging industry. Their intelligent sensors allow machines to switch automatically to different types of packaging using patented technology that reduces maintenance times and operating costs alike. PIF explores Baumer’s range of sensors for the packaging industry.
Sensors for the packaging industry
Baumer manufactures an impressive selection of sensors for the packaging industry, which meet all the necessary approvals and certifications relevant to the packaging industry, including ATEX, FDA, EHEDG and IP69K.
Here is a brief guide to some of their most innovative sensor products, which are guaranteed to boost the productivity of any packaging application.
Baumer offers a broad selection of reliable and precise electronic temperature measurement sensors featuring a wide range of measuring technologies and Pt100 classes that offer a variety of output signals. For instance, their durable and hygienic AISI 316L CombiTemp temperature sensors deliver precise temperature readings from -50 °C to +400 °C and are available with HART or Pt100 output and an optional touch display.
Baumer has a wide range of temperature sensors for the packaging industry. Take their PBMN flush, for instance. This fully welded pressure transmitter with flush membrane offers a cavity-free process connection, compact installations from G 1/2 A, and impressive temperature stability. All of which make it ideal for CIP applications.
Or there’s the CombiPress PFMH, a fully welded pressure sensor with hygienic connection and intuitive touch screen. This high-precision sensor boasts a certified hygienic design, including a flush membrane, that adheres to 3-A FDA and EHEDG sanitary standards.
Baumer also offers an extensive selection of robust and reliable level sensors. For example, the compact and hygienic LSKx5x conductive level sensor is primed for the packaging industry, offering multipoint level detection via acid-proof stainless steel and PEEK wetted parts and an optional PTFE coating for foamy media.
Meanwhile, Baumer’s CleverLevel range of switches offer an intelligent alternative to vibrating forks. As a case in point, their CleverLevel LBFH is a 3-A, FDA and EHEDG certified switch that employs point level detection technology for effective foam detection or suppression. A 360-degree multicolour LED and IO-Link interface ensure maximum convenience and efficiency.
Conductivity and flow sensors
Baumer’s portfolio of innovative and compact conductivity sensors for the packaging industry centres around their innovative CombiLyz inductive conductivity sensors. CombiLyz AF14 and AF15 devices feature a hygienic, food-safe design that complies with EHEDG, FDA and 3-A standards. Available with HART and IO-Link communication protocols, these transmitters boast wetted parts constructed form PEEK and the AF15 comes with a separate sensor for applications involving cramped spaces or strong vibrations.
In their flow sensor range, Baumer’s FlexFlow PF20H is a compact and robust hygienic flow sensor offering simultaneous flow and temperature measurements in a single sensor. This FDA-compliant sensor’s wetted parts are constructed from AISI 316L, making it fully SIP-capable up to 150 °C.
Baumer also offers an impressive array of distance and object sensors, which are ideal for the rigours of packaging applications. Within the range, they have a variety of durable, maintenance-free inductive proximity switches boasting integrated evaluation electronics and large sensing distances. ATEX and EHEDG certified versions in hygienic stainless steel are also available.
Meanwhile their collection of light barriers and light sensors for the packaging industry deliver accurate and reliable object detection. Not only do these high-performance sensors use laser technology for detection tasks in the 0.01mm range, but they are also incredibly easy to set up thanks to Baumer’s user-friendly teach-in function.
The Baumer Group is leading at international level in the development and production of sensors, shaft encoders, measuring instruments as well as components for automatic image processing.
