ABB develops cost-effective pH and conductivity transmitter

The AWT210 single-channel two-wire analytical transmitter from automation experts, ABB, harnesses plug-and-play technology to deliver a cost-effective and future-proof solution for industrial applications requiring accurate pH and conductivity measurement. In this article, PIF unpacks some of the most impressive features of this innovative new device.

Cost-effective new analytical transmitter

ABB has taken an innovative approach to transmitter design with its new AWT210 single-channel two-wire transmitter for redox (ORP), pH and conductivity measurement and control in hazardous and non-hazardous industrial applications. The modular design reduces process downtime and overall operations costs, while improving safety and boosting performance by optimising plant control and availability.

The low power high-performance transmitter is built around single sensor interchangeable modular plug-and-play technology. A major benefit of the AWT210’s modular design is its ability to handle future sensor technologies, such as ABB’s digital EZLink sensors. By simply upgrading the transmitter with the necessary module, operators can avoid the cost and time of purchasing and installing new transmitter units.

User-friendly pH and conductivity measurement

Operational simplicity is at the heart of the AWT210 transmitter’s design. Based on ABB’s common intuitive HMI, users can easily navigate the device, thanks to easy setup menus that provide step-by-step guidance. This intuitive approach means that routine calibration tasks can be initiated at the touch of a button.

ABB’s AWT210 pH and conductivity measurement transmitter ensures optimal safety and performance in the harshest of applications. Combined with its greater user flexibility and environmental compliance, this innovative new transmitter is the ideal choice for the oil and gas, pulp and paper, metals and mining, and chemical and petrochemical industries.

Flexible and modular transmitter design

The highly flexible transmitter design enables the same unit to be used with pH, redox (ORP) and ion-selective sensors, as well as two- and four-electrode and toroidal conductivity sensors. Factory-calibrated modules for the different sensor types can be quickly fitted and exchanged when required via the transmitter’s hinged door, enabling fast and easy upgrading and maintenance in the field.

This same approach applies when integrating the AWT210 into different control systems. It comes equipped with a range of exchangeable modules available for 4-20mA with HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and Profibus PA communications protocols.

AWT210 transmitter delivers safe and secure performance

With its range of wall, pipe and panel mounting options and IP66 rated enclosure, the AWT210 can be installed almost anywhere in an industrial process with both intrinsically safe and non-incendive versions for hazardous area installation. All of which is certified by USFMc and ATEX/IECEx.

To prevent unauthorised modifications to the calibration and configuration settings, multi-level security access ensures that users can only perform tasks within their specific profiles. As such, the AWT210 transmitter provides a choice of read-only, calibrate and advanced security access levels.
