SUBCON 2014: A sneak preview of what to expect at this dedicated manufacturing event

Subcon 2014, the UK’s only exhibition dedicated to subcontract and contract manufacturing, returns to the NEC Birmingham from 3-5 June. PIF has taken a look behind the scenes to give you a sneak preview of what to expect at this enormous free event.

Subcon is co-located with Advanced Manufacturing and The Engineer Design & Innovation Show. More than 300 exhibitors – including world-class suppliers and manufacturers form the worlds of machining, moulding, and fabrication (to name but a few) – will be on hand to showcase the latest manufacturing developments.

The Engineer Conference will also unveil cutting edge manufacturing technology from established and emerging sectors, with keynote industry speakers and 'show and tell' technology seminars. Plus the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) will be extolling top-notch export advice at sessions within the Conference Programme, as well as hosting a stand at the show.

Why attend Subcon 2014?

Subcon 2014 is completely free to attend and registration is quick and simple. According to the website, Subcon offers you “the perfect opportunity to review manufacturing processes and costs, benchmark solutions and enhance business efficiency, under one roof.”

Exhibition details

Subcon has doubled in size over the last five years and this year is expected to attract more than 4,000 visitors. “Leading decision makers from all sectors come to Subcon to identify potential manufacturing partners and place business,” they say.

The Subcon Electronics Zone is new for 2014 to demonstrate the best in electronics design and manufacture and provide outsourcing solutions, with a veritable smorgasbord of new technologies and electronics specialists to interact with.

You can foster meaningful international relationships at what Subcon calls 'The National Pavilions,' which will have confirmed representatives attending from Italy, Spain, France, China, Taiwan and Latvia.

Meanwhile, don't miss the chance to see the unique BLOODHOUND SSC – Richard Noble's new pet project – a vehicle that is gearing up to break the 1,000mph barrier and set a new world land speed record in the process. You've a chance to get up close and personal with this phenomenal piece of engineering and talk to some of the team behind it.

MENDI Metal Innovation Group (H32)

MENDI Metal Innovation Group is a company based in the Basque Country of Northern Spain that has amassed more than 50 years of experience producing complete hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical units for special purpose or applications. Their assemblies arrive pre-tested, painted and ready-to-install.

MENDI GROUP excels in the inner machining of tubular parts, especially high precision machining (either inner and outer) of large size tubular parts. Their fabrication department works closely with the dedicated design team and a new business unit has acquired specialist welding and open die forging outfits to strengthen the group's capabilities.

Location

The NEC Birmingham is the grand daddy of exhibition centres. Just eight miles east of Birmingham city centre it's perfectly connected to the UK's second city as well as the major motorway, rail and air transport links. Subcon takes place in Hall 3 and opens at 9.30am each morning, with a 16.30pm close Tuesday and Wednesday and 16.00pm on Thursday.

By road
Drivers are greeted with 16,500 parking spaces. Just follow the electronic signs or directions from the traffic team to get you to the right car park area. Then take the free shuttle bus or walk to the halls via the sign posted footpaths.

By rail
The NEC is immediately next to Birmingham International rail station. Transfer to the halls is quick, convenient and covered – perfect for our unpredictable summer weather!

By air
From Birmingham Airport (BHX), take the free and fast Air-Rail Link to Birmingham International railway station, just a short walk from the centre's entrance. It runs every two minutes and takes just 90 seconds to reach the NEC.
