Valve selection made easy with TOM SPAVE acronym
A helpful acronym for selecting a valve in an application is the TOM SPAVE acronym. TOM SPAVE identifies factors which must be considered in order to select the correct valve for an application.
There are 2 variants…
T – Temperature: Medium/Fluid/Ambient?
O – Orifice: BSP, Flange
M – Media: Air, Water, Oil, Gas
S – Switching function: 2/2, 3/2, N/C, N/O
P – Pressure: Min. / Max., Differential, Non-Differential
A – Atmosphere: Aggressive/Explosive
V – Voltage: AC/DC/Wattage
E – Equipment: ATEX Class, Manual Override
Or
T – Type: 2/2, 3/2, 4/2, 5/2
O – Operation: N/O, N/C
M – Media: Air, Water, Oil, Gas
S – Size: ¼”, ½”, 1”, 2”
P – Pressure: Bar, PSI
A – Ambient: Temperature
V – Voltage: 110/50, 230/50, 24DC
E – Enclosure: Explosion proof
