Tubing pumps for contamination free & hygienic pumping

As market leaders of pumping solutions in hygienic & pharmaceutical applications, Cole-Parmer offer a range of tubing pumps suitable for dispensing, metering and transfer of both aggressive and neutral fluids. From low cost fixed speed pumps to advanced controlled models suitable for critical metering and dispensing applications Cole-Parmer is always able to offer a tubing pump solution. Cole-Parmer were exhibiting their innovative range of Fluid Handling equipment at the Pump Centre Conference in May 2014. The PIF team had the opportunity to interview Technical Sales Manager Colin Heathfield about their innovative Masterflex® Peristaltic Pump.

What is the Masterflex® Peristaltic Pump?

MasterFlex Pump The Masterflex® Peristaltic Pump is a Tubing Pump which can handle many different aggressive medias and is highly suited to hygienic applications.

How do Tubing Pumps work?

Tubing pumps use flexible tubing to run through rollers in the pump head. As fluid goes through the pump head, packets of fluids are formed. Flow rate is determined by the size of the packets and the speed of the rollers turning. By controlling the size of the tubing and the speed of the pump head accurate metering of the media can be achieved.

Tubing Pumps for Hygienic applications

MasterFlex Pump The Masterflex® Tubing Pump is highly suited to applications were contamination is not an option and for applications pumping hygienic or aggressive media. Tubing pumps confine the media to the tubing providing you with a pump that cannot contaminate the fluid and the fluid cannot contaminate your pump. This contamination free pumping makes tubing pumps great for use in high purity application including the transfer or dosing of chemicals and additives in food, pharmaceutical and semiconductor applications.

Maintenance free Peristaltic Pumping

As the media is confined to the tubing a tubing pump offers easy maintenance and reduced down time compared to other pumping technologies. According to Colin Heathfield, changing the tubing on the  Masterflex® Peristaltic Pump is as simple as lifting the handle on the pump, taking the tubing out, putting a new tube in and closing the handle – it is as simple as that.
