New water analysis system from Bürkert for monitoring everything from pH to Conductivity!

Bürkert has recently introduced an extremely innovative water analysis unit for monitoring and controlling important parameters in water treatment applications. This article provides an overview of the new Online Analysis System, touching on the ‘game-changing’ features the water analysis system brings to the water industry.

What is the Type 8905 Online Analysis System from Bürkert?

The Type 8905 Online Analysis System from Bürkert is a fluidic platform that combines monitoring of all relevant measurement parameters for drinking water analysis. The Online Analysis System can be used to monitor and control pH, ORP, Chlorine, Conductivity and Turbidity – all from one compact unit.

Rachel Wilson from PIF interviews Bürkert expert Clive Halliday about the innovative features of the Online Analysis System, including Bürkert’s vision for how the Online Water Analysis system will be utilised in water applications worldwide.

What Problem does the Online Analysis System overcome?

The continuous analysis of water parameters is a costly procedure in practice. Usually, different systems with separate displays, different controls and individual sensors are installed. Furthermore, the combination of essential parameters that must be measured, analysed and recorded during water processing tasks can make for complicated control issues when using generalist automation equipment.

Bürkert has the solution to water analysis!

Online Analysis System

As a leading manufacturer of process control and measuring equipment, Bürkert understands these requirements, whether the task is to produce drinking water, or supply horticultural and industrial applications.

This understanding has led to the development of a number of innovative process valve and control solutions for the water sector which share Bürkert’s efficient device integration platform (EDIP); this concept allows a level of flexibility by offering modularity in the hardware as well as in the software of the system.

The new Online Analysis System Type 8905 shares this flexibility with its innovative Sensor Cubes which can be plugged directly into the main unit without the need for further wiring, I/O or programming integration. This not only speeds-up installation but can improve process performance, reduce downtime and cut overall costs.

Features of the Online Analysis System

Analysis cubes in the Online Analysis System

  • Hot-swapping of additional sensors for ultimate flexibility and control – each cube has the same dimensions and connections and so simply ‘plugs in’ to the unit.
  • The different modules can be connected and disconnected during operation and can be combined for customised applications.
  • The unit can be retrofitted at any time.
  • Compact-design of the platform means less space requirements, low energy consumption, less wiring and less maintenance.
  • Reduced installation costs.
  • Flexible communication options – USB, Ethernet and Fieldbus connectivity.

Applications for the Online Analysis System

The functional scope of the Online Analysis System is initially optimised for applications in waterworks.

The unit could support engineers in water treatment works in their daily work. The Online Analysis System contributes to cost-effective and safe drinking water production through optimisation of the controls for single process steps.

For applications where multiple water flows need to be analysed, it is possible to link up to 30 analysis Sensor Cubes and combine their operational controls to a single touch-screen display. In the future, Bürkert will be developing additional analysis cubes to measure other parameters as well as increasing the expansion capabilities.
