Murrelektronik preaches interoperability at PROFIsafe User Workshop

When Murrelektronik teamed up with PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) to deliver the PROFIsafe User Workshop recently, interoperability was very much the key theme up for discussion.

It isn’t every day that customers and competitors come together for a workshop, but the latest event offered by PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) managed to do just that. For the first time, the PROFIsafe User Workshop brought together both device and component manufacturers as well as machine builders. With 120 people participating from different areas, the event was well attended.

Interoperability with manufacturers, customers and suppliers

Some highlights of the workshop, alongside the presentations, were the interoperability live demo that displayed the functionality of PROFIsafe, discussions on safety versus security and the latest information about implementing machine guidelines. The workshop also featured a micro trade show which allowed manufacturers to engage with machine builders in a new setting.

The community is in focus today – first of all with the manufacturers displaying a large selection of devices and secondly, with many new innovations in the safety technology area. Both of these trends emphasize that we are the leading safety standard

said Xaver Schmid, Profinet Workgroup Leader.

Murrelektronik’s own Vice President of Automation and PI Board Member, Joerg Krautter, opened the event with a warm welcome and hinted toward the exciting future of PROFIsafe saying, “the theme of this event is interoperability – not only with the different manufacturers but also with the collaboration between customers and suppliers.”

PROFIsafe's leading safety field bus communication system

According to PI, over 4 million bus nodes use PROFIsafe and the tremendous growth of the past years confirms PROFIsafe as a leading safety field bus communication system that enables many new functions in fieldbus modules. Alongside reducing wiring, it enables a much higher flexibility and availability within systems. Life cycles can be greatly extended when safety is correctly considered and implemented.

The workshop was hosted at Murrelektronik GmbH. Headquartered in Southern Germany, they are one of the leading automation manufacturers specializing in power, automation and connectors. With manufacturing facilities in Europe, Asia and soon in America, they are able to provide customers with top quality and quick delivery time.
