Murrelektronik I/O connection specialists – The facts on Profibus
Profibus (Process Field Bus) is the world’s most widely used fieldbus and is supported by more than 1,400 equipment vendors globally. Profibus is a standard for fieldbus communication in automation technology and was first promoted in 1989 by BMBF (German department of education and research) and then by Siemens. Not to be confused with the Profinet, Profibus is neither an openly published, nor a royalty-free protocol.
Profibus basics tutorial
Profibus is a protocol for fieldbus communication in automation technology that links automation systems and controllers with decentralised field devices, such as actuators, sensors and encoders. Profibus networks exchange data using a single bus cable.
Many instrument manufacturers offer Profibus because for each application there is a single solution, inventory and knowledge portion. Profibus can interface with 12 Mbps, which is the fastest fieldbus in the automation world. Profiles are pre-defined configurations of the functions available from Profibus for different devices and applications.
Murrelektronik Profibus controllers
Installation concepts based on Murrelektronik’s Cube20 and Cube67 can be easily integrated into higher level fieldbus systems with a single bus node – like Profibus. Machine modules can remain the same across multiple platforms and adapted to different protocols by swapping only the one bus node as needed for a different protocol.
Cube20 is a centralised IP20 I/O station with modular function modules and the ability to connect direct to Cube67 modules. The compact modules have a high signal installation of up to 32 channels in one module, which significantly reduces the wiring efforts in the cabinet. Up to 488 I/O points in a width of only 90 centimetres helps to save space in the cabinet.
Cube67 is Murrelektronik’s award-winning, modular fieldbus system. It can be customised to meet the specific requirements of an installation solution. Cube67 is characterised by its single cable technology, multi-function modules, flexible installation methods and robust, potted circuitry. The unique single cable module connection transfers both power and data from a single bus node to connected modules simplifying installation.
Impact 67 is a modular IP67 field bus I/O system with many variants to suit most applications
MVK is a robust metal IP67 modular I/O system and is available in many differing variants. It is particularly suited to applications in harsh industrial environments.
