Innovative Solutions for Combustible Gas
The University required a combustible gas rig that would provide a platform for three gases to be mixed at very precise ratios and then ignited to produce a very stable and consistent flame. The three gases were oxygen, nitrogen and liquid petroleum gas (LPG). Once the stable flame was present and consistent, various test chemicals would be introduced to the flame and the resulting compounds deposited on to a material plate, which would be positioned strategically in front of the flame.
The design team at the university needed to ensure that once the safety requirements were met, the rig was able to deliver the precise results required by analytical research. Consistent data, every time. In order to deliver this, the instrumentation used in the rig needed to be of the highest quality… Step forward Bürkert.
Precise Mass Flow Control
The Bürkert Type 8713 Mass Flow Controller (MFC) for gas was ideally suited to this project and was quickly chosen by the University as the perfect product for the job. Three units (one for each gas) were selected and integrated into the design.
The Type 8713 is highly accurate to 0.3% of full scale and is incredibly quick to react to changes thanks to the sensor being in direct contact with the gas. This mass flow controller can easily be programmed by the Bürkert Type 8611 eCONTROL universal controller for a simple, closed loop system.
